The Beautiful Dark

The world around me is sleeping and still,
The beautiful dark, and the deep tranquil,
Many morning cheers with its radiant light,
But not so for me, leave me to the night.

To some morning comes as a joyous array,
Its rays softly dance at their mindless play,
Waking sweet slumber in a ruthless bite,
But not so for me, leave me to the night.

Leave me to the comfort, the quiet, the peace,
Alone with empty thoughts, sweet dreams that repeat,
Away from gravity’s pull, such a tiring plight,
Yes, reality knock softer, and leave me to the night.
