Serenity is not Freedom from the Storm...but Peace amid the Storm

My child, why such a sad face?
The smile that doesn’t reach your eyes?
Tell me of your troubles and pain
Let me share in your burden and salty tears

Why the chains around your heart?
Your stomach in your throat?
Rest easy, don’t be so afraid
Listen to me now

Don’t give into tomorrow’s worries little one
Don’t let other’s cares carry you away
Or bring you down with their heavy thoughts
That sink into your heart like clouds of lead

Be true to your foundation
And never stray from that which you know is right
Entrench yourself in the One who never changes
In whose light will always raise you up

No little one, don’t cry so, lay your head on mine
We will face this storm together
Laughing in the face of the wind
Confident in where our hope rests

Unafraid we stand
Calm in our footing
Never to be turned aside
From the hand that holds us
